Levels of Recertified, Refurbished Lenovo Laptops

When you are tasked with buying laptops for your business, there are times when brand new machines are necessary and you are provided with such a budget. However, in many instances, refurbished models are most viable. IT Xchange is a business-to-business company selling computers in a range of conditions to fit organizations at different levels within their hardware investment’s lifecycle. It’s important to understand how these levels vary, though, so that you’re not surprised by the recertified, otherwise called refurbished Lenovo laptops that you purchase.

Recertified Refurbished Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

Every computer that we offer for sale is labeled with a part number, and the last two digits of these numbers indicate the condition of the product. Products ending in 01, like this ThinkPad X1 Carbon, are brand new and factory-sealed. They are sold with the manufacturer’s warranty (typically 1-3 years). Part numbers ending in 02 represent equipment that is still brand new but comes in bulk packaging. Products marked 03 are factory sealed but do not include the OEM warranty. Instead, IT Xhange offers a 1-year warranty on these products.

04 hardware, like this other ThinkPad X1 Carbon, represents products that have been used as demo equipment for a short period of time. They are open-box but still covered by the remainder of the OEM warranty. Products labeled 05 are also demo equipment, but they don’t include any OEM warranty.

Moving into refurbished equipment, an 06 part number like the one on this ThinkPad T420 means a product has been used before and been given a Grade A after getting refurbished. These products are fully functional, though they won’t come with manuals and often won’t have an O/S pre-installed.

07 equipment like this ThinkPad X220 or this ThinkPad T510 have been given a Grade B after refurbishment. These products are still fully functional, but they may have up to two cosmetic imperfections. Often, VARs will perform basic upgrades to these computers–such as installing an O/S or other software–before reselling.

Products marked with 08 have been refurbished by the original manufacturer and may carry OEM warranties that range from 30 days to 3 years. All hardware marked 01 thru 08 also has a 90-day general warranty from IT Xchange and a 5-day DOA warranty.

Products that carry the code 10 are used and have not been refurbished. They are functional, but may show heavy wear. Part numbers that end in 15 require minor repairs in order to become functional again. These two code numbers carry a 5-day DOA warranty only. Finally, if products are marked with a code 09, they are being sold “as-is” and carry no warranty at all.

If you are looking to buy products that have been discontinued by the manufacturer in order to keep all the machines uniform across your network, then you might consider looking into our Lenovo Operations Continuation Program (OCP). Supporting popular brands like ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkVision, and Projector, this program helps you find the products your business needs at fair prices. It covers both new and recertified computers that have been discontinued in the last 1-5 years.

No matter what Lenovo laptops you’re looking for, IT Xchange makes it easy to find machines that fit your specifications and your budget.
